Studio visit with Matthias Arndt
Studio visit with Matthias Arndt
Congratulations to ANNA UDDENBERG for winning the 2022 Hector Art Prize. With the Swedish artist Anna Uddenberg (*1982 in Stockholm) the jury has chosen as this year's Hector Art Prize winner a strong feminist position whose artistic work presents an exciting, challenging and also polarizing view of corporeality, sex (or gender) and commodity aesthetics. An award ceremony will be held on May 19 at Kunsthalle Mannheim, where Anna Uddenberg will have a major solo exhibition in 2023. - Matthias Arndt
Meanwhile in Sydney: DEL KATHRYN BARTON is working on her exhibition “the women who fell to earth”, opening 6.5. at Roslyn Oxley 9 Gallery, featuring new work by the Australian artist. Barton’s detailed and vibrant paintings explore the symbolic language of femininity, interweaving references to traditional folklore and the cosmos.

Before leaving Athens, I could take a peek at the installation site of LOUISE BOURGEOIS bronze sculpture „Maman“. Greece’s major philanthropies „NEON“ and „Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center“ are collaborating for the first time to bring Bourgeois’ masterpiece to the Athens public (30.3. until 6.11.2022). Meanwhile at the Benaki Museum of Greek Culture, collaborating Gagosian, THEASTER GATES „Vessels“ are „sparring“ with Greek and Byzantine Artworks and Artefacts from three millennials (until April 30th.) #louisebourgeois #stavrosniarchosfoundation #louisebourgeoisspider #neonfoundation #neongreece #theastergates #gagosian #athensart #gagosiangallery #benakimuseum #greekart #athensart #greekphilanthropy #matthiastraveldiary #matthiasarndtrecommends

"There would be no artworld, no museums, galleries, collections and certainly no art without the artists creating the subject of our work and passion. Looking back at cherished moments and encounters with artists, I collaborated with in the past or we currently work with A3, who are friends and whose work I love." - Matthias Arndt

In her latest book, Kennedy stages the bathtub in four series of works, presenting existential themes such as birth, sexuality and death.

In addition to the book, Kennedy has also created a silent film, a series of 200 drawings, a 3-channel video installation and a virtual reality experience, each dissecting the complex code of bathing in a socio-cultural context.
Bianca Kennedy's first book "Let me draw you a bath" explores the theatricality of the bathtub and its many forms of expression in recent years.
Amongst the works we recently placed with A3 is
"Section de Merde Allemand"“, a 1990 painting by JÖRG IMMENDORFF (1945 - 2007). Immendorff is considered one of the most important and internationally successful German artists of the postwar period.

The attention to detail in works by MARINA CRUZ is truly exquisite. Through her work, Cruz has continually explored an essential trait found within her homeland: the valued continuum that proceeds from close family ties among succeeding generations. Through her art, she is able to transpose the activity of one generation to the next: her grandmother’s dress- making, her mother’s fittings, and her own activity of painting. This closed cycle of familial undertakings, carefully pieced together and sympathetically presented by Cruz, has become rare in a world that has developed the propensity to reach outward rather than inward, due to the globalizing technologies.

Excited with our new acquisition: „Familiarity“, by Emma Prempeh’s latest series of paintings, titled In and Out of Time, deals with similar themes of the late American activist and poet, Maya Angelou’s poem: a meditation on love, conflict, relationships, connections, and experiences forever bonded through time. The large scale canvas works are a reflection of Prempeh’s brief encounters with her Ghanaian heritage, her family, its people, architecture and landscapes created during her residency at ADA in Ghana. - Matthias Arndt
